Early Intervention
Early Intervention is an integrated developmental service available to families of children from birth to age three consisting of home visits, center-based visits, assessments, parent-child groups, parent support groups, service coordination, referral and transition assistance. Services are provided by a team of professionals representing a variety of disciplines, such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, social workers and developmental specialists.
Early Intervention (EI) services are for: (a) children with identified disabilities like Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, and Autism; (b) those with developmental delays, as in walking or speaking; or (c) those at risk for delays in development due to risk factors related to birth and/or environmental circumstances.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has the responsibility for administering and overseeing the statewide system of Early Intervention services.
