Special Olympics
Massachusetts
Northeast Arc is partnered with Special Olympics Massachusetts to provide free and inclusive sports training and the ability to participate in various competitions to more than 100 athletes. We offer the following sports (listed below) throughout the four sport seasons. Through sports we are able to teach the importance of exercise and teamwork as well as build strength, confidence, and achieve new goals.

Winter

Basketball
Danvers
The basketball program is an instructional and competitive program for all ages. The teams practice weekly in Danvers and compete in a number of Special Olympics tournaments that take place on various weekends beginning mid-December until March. The program ends with an opportunity to continue onto the Special Olympics MA state tournament in Worcester.

Candlepin
Peabody
We welcome all skill levels to come participate in our candlepin bowling program. The program practices weekly in Peabody and provides an opportunity to compete in the Special Olympics MA season-ending competiton in April.
Ages: 15+
Young Athletes
Hamilton
Our winter young athletes program is hosted by Pingree School. The program is an early introduction to sports & the world of Special Olympics. This inclusive program focuses on fun activities important to mental and physical growth. We welcome children ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities.

Aquatics
Beverly
A partnership with the YMCA of the North Shore in Beverly. This instructional program is for all skill levels (must have the basic swim skills). Athletes train multiple seasons as they prepare for our spring competitions. The program ends with an opportunity to compete at the state tournament at Harvard.

Powerlifting
Beverly
Northeast Arc partners with the CrossFit 5+ gym to to offer the powerlifting program. This program offers an opportunity to learn the importance of exercise, diet and relationships as well as provides one on one coaching from professional instructors with the abillity to compete in the June Special Olympics MA state competiton at Harvard University. Practices are from March until the beginning of June.
Ages: 16+
Tennis
Ipswich
The tennis program practices mid-April until the first week of June. The program offers an opportunity to learn the game of tennis with the abillity to compete in the Special Olympics MA season ending state competiton in June at Harvard University.
Ages: 8+
Track
Danvers
Track and Field is a spring season instructional and competitive program. We offer numerous running events depending on the athlete’s level. Don’t like running, that’s okay! We also offer various walking events for those who feel more comfortable with a slower pace. Throwing events that are offered in our program are softball throw, javelin, and shot put. Throughout the season athletes have the opportunity to compete in a qualifying tournament and if advanced, Summer Games at Harvard!

Bocce
Danvers
The bocce program practices in Danvers from mid- June until the end of August. Athletes are able to learn the basics of bocce and practice their bocce skills. There is an opportunity to compete in a season ending state tournament hosted by Special Olympics MA in Marlborough, MA.
Ages: 13+
Golf
Beverly
Come the end of spring and all summer long, we are out on the golf course in Beverly. This program allows you to work on your swing and putting skills. Train for either 9 or 18 holes as an individual or with a partner. The program ends in August with a Special Olympics state tournament.
Ages: 21+
Softball
Peabody
The softball program practices in Peabody from mid- June until the end of August. Athletes practice their fielding and batting skills in order to compete as a team in competition. There is an opportunity to compete in a season ending state tournament hosted by Special Olympics MA in Marlborough, MA.
Ages: 16+
Young Athletes

Our summer young athletes program is located at Bishop Fenwick. The program is an early introduction to sports & the world of Special Olympics. This inclusive program focuses on fun activities important to mental and physical growth. We welcome children ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities.

Flag Football
Danvers
Our football program starts in September and goes until mid-November. Athletes and partners practice weekly in Danvers as we train for a chance to compete at the state tournament at Gillette Stadium.
Ages: 21+
Soccer
Peabody
Once summer ends, we head right to the soccer field. This program practices weekly in Peabody as we gear up for local competitions in the Special Olympics MA soccer league. The season ends with a chance to win gold at the state tournament at Governor’s Academy.
Ages: 8+
