Independent Living

Bill is a gentleman who has lived in Gloucester all of his life. He enjoys every aspect of living, working, volunteering and socializing in his hometown. This includes his job at Shaw’s as well as his coaching duties with the Little League baseball team in the spring and the Gloucester High football team in the fall. Bill takes these responsibilities to heart and wants people to know him as “Coach Bill.”

The only dream that Bill had not fulfilled was living independently; he had shared a 24-hour home operated by Northeast Arc with 3 roommates for a number of years, but wanted more. He accomplished many personal goals and was becoming more independent from staff and his roommates and he realized it was time for him to continue his journey and live on his own.

Bill’s dream came true when he moved into a 3-room cottage located behind his Northeast Arc residential home. He quickly moved in and decorated his new “pad” with his many trophies, news articles and awards commemorating all his accomplishments.

Bill is supported to be successful in his new home by Northeast Arc staff who come in on various days of the week to assist him in learning new skills and helping him maintain his status in the Gloucester community.
