Information and Referral
The Autism Support Center is often the first place a family turns to after their child is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Once we understand your needs and concerns, we’ll put a package together for you with information about the autism spectrum, special education guidelines, ideas for enhancing communication, fact sheets on available services and resources, and any additional information specific to the needs of the family. We also maintain a comprehensive resource list of professionals with interest and experience in ASD.
Our lending library is extensive; we have books and DVDs on a wide variety of topics including educational strategies, how to deal with difficult behaviors, communication strategies and parent/sibling issues. The library is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
The Center may have funds available through grants and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services that can be allocated to qualifying families to hire respite providers or purchase other goods and services. Contact the Center for more information on the availability of funds.
Children’s Autism Waiver Services
The Autism Support Center’s support brokers work in partnership with families of children served by the Children’s Autism Waiver program. This program provides intensive in-home and community-based services to MassHealth-eligible children under the age of 9 who have a diagnosis of ASD.
Training and Education
The Center provides frequent educational opportunities for families and professionals, with topics ranging from basic information on ASD, to managing challenging behavior in the home, treatment options and advocacy.
