Not communicating directly with those who have disabilities is one of the most common forms of disability stigma.

In March 2025, Northeast Arc’s Community Resource Center launched the Northeast Transition Collaborative Network (NTCN), with the goal of unifying resources, providing training, and creating a collaborative space for everyone involved in the person-centered transition process from school to adult services in the Northeast region of Massachusetts

The gift is the largest in Northeast Arc’s 72-year history

The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $900,000 in grant funding for six organizations across Massachusetts to provide job training, employment placement, and post-placement services for 116 young adults with disabilities.

“The Changing Lives award recognizes both Rick and Joan’s dedication to Northeast Arc and their commitment in helping the organization create inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities,” said Jo Ann Simons, President and CEO, Northeast Arc.

Orfanos, who is a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional, earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Psychology from Simmons University.
