On August 4, 2020, Northeast Arc CEO Jo Ann Simons participated in the m/Oppenheim Associates Nonprofit Report, a live webcast focusing on nonprofit organizations, issues, and leaders. Simons discussed Northeast Arc’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how individuals with disabilities have been affected. “One of the things that became evident during the early part of the pandemic, is that the rest of the world now understand what people with disabilities face every day, and that’s isolation,” said Simons. “While we have had a few months of it, people with disabilities have been experiencing exclusion and isolation their entire lives.” In addition to the pandemic’s impact on the individuals served by Northeast Arc, Simons also outlined how the organization adapted to keep employees safe, while continuing to provide services virtually.
